  • Radio Free Skaro #292 – Amok Time

At long last, Radio Free Skaro's time-filling series of Series 6 commentaries comes to an end with the Three Who Rule talking over "The Wedding of River Song". They manage to keep vaguely on topic, perhaps a tough task given their general ennui towards the Series 6 finale which contained ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #291 – That Which Survives

A simple commentary about "Closing Time," which gave the Three Who Rule ample time to discuss the great chemistry between Matt Smith and guest star James Corden, instead devolved into a simply rancid discussion on babies and their propensity to poop on this episode of Radio Free Skaro. Our ...

It looks like August 9 will see the North American DVD release of the Seventh Doctor story Paradise Towers; this title doesn’t yet have a UK release date. Amongst the features on the disc are a commentary featuring writer Stephen Wyatt, sound designer Dick Mills and (oddly, perhaps, given he didn’t provide the music score on this story), Mark Ayres. Ayres may be there to offer an insight in David Snell’s unused scored for the story which is included on the disc as an extra. Whether you prefer Snell’s score to Keff McCulloch’s last minute replacement work is another matter…

SRP for the DVD will be $24.98. Check out more details at TVShowsOnDVD.com.

UPDATE: A second DVD, The Sun Makers from Season 15, will also see release on August 9. No artwork has been revealed yet, but a small list of extras has been confirmed including a commentary with Tom Baker, Louise Jameson, Michael Keating, and the late Pennant Roberts, as well as a feature on long time Doctor Who composer Dudley Simpson. The shelf price for this will also be $24.98. Check TVShowsOnDVD.com for more on this release.

UPDATE 2: Artwork for The Sun Makers is now available. TVShowsOnDVD.com has full details on extras.

Radio Free Skaro #247 – Click here to listen

The Three Who Rule donned their toques, broke out the stubbies and poured maple syrup all over their first ever, long-past-due episode examining and celebrating Doctor Who in their home and native land, America Jr. Canada. All in a very polite way, of course. With Canuck Who luminaries such as SPACE Channel’s Mark Askwith, Graeme Burk and Mike Doran on hand to lead us through the past, present and future of the Doctor on Canadian TV (and off), it’s fair to say we were as enthused as bunch of drunken curlers crashing a lacrosse tournament.

TVLine.com is reporting that Torchwood: Miracle Day will premiere July 8 on Starz.

Torchwood: Miracle Day, the fourth series of the successful Doctor Who spinoff, tells the story of what it would be like if people on Earth stopped dying. Featuring the return of John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness along with regular cast Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) and Kai Owen (Rhys Williams), along with newcomers Mekhi Phifer and Bill Pullman, the story is written by some heavyweights such as Russell T Davies, Doris Egan and Jane Espenson.

No premiere date has yet been announced for the BBC transmission.

Update: The Starz website now confirms the July 8 premiere date.

July 5 (as reported by BBC America; July 12 seems the more likely date as announced by Warner) will feature the last as-yet-unreleased-on-DVD Peter Davison story, The Awakening, hitting store shelves. Bonus features include a commentary, a behind-the-scenes documentary, a “Now and Then” piece, and the rest of the usual fare (PDF Radio Times listings and so on) as well as deleted scenes featuring Kamelion who was initially meant to appear in the story.

UPDATE: The William Hartnell serial The Gunfighters has now been added as the second July DVD release from 2 Entertain, streeting on the same date. A few bonus items are included such as a commentary and “Tomorrow’s Times” piece, but the main documentary on this disc is “The End of the Line”, which promises to be a very interesting piece on the John Wiles era. More news on that later…

SRP for The Awakening will be $14.98, and $24.98 for The Gunfighters, and in the mean time check out more details at TVShowsOnDVD.com (The Gunfighters, The Awakening) or click on the cover art for larger a version.
