Radio Free Skaro #271 – Heeeeey Macarena!

Radio Free Skaro #271 – Click here to listen!

The Girl Who Waited was, to varying degrees, praised by the Three Who Rule as one of the best episodes (if not THE best, according to Warren) of this season, with acclaim for the direction, the visuals, the timey-wimey-ness, and most of all for Karen Gillan’s double performance as herself and…herself.

But wait! Torchwood: Miracle Day also wrapped up its 10 episode run with rockginas, immortals, f-bombs, and Oswald Danes doing what he does best: making the blood of civilized folk curdle.

Add a dollop of stats, DVD news and Matt Smith being a stylin’ mofo, and you’ve got yourself, well, a podcast!

Next week…..Night Terrors! Or, more accurately, The God Complex!

Doctor Who Series 6 Box Set North American Release

Warner has announced release information for the remaining Doctor Who Series 6 home video sets.

While the first part of Series 6 was released on home video this summer, Part Two, including Let’s Kill Hitler through The Wedding of River Song, will see its home video release on November 8 on both Blu-Ray and DVD. The only extras on the disc are a pair of Monster Files featurettes. MSRP will be $24.98 (DVD) and $29.98 (BD).

However, on November 22, a scant two weeks later, and just in time for Doctor Who’s 48th birthday, people will be able to buy the complete, 6-disc, Series 6 set which includes A Christmas Carol as well as other currently unannounced extras (no doubt including the usual fare such as Confidential Cutdown). MSRP for the complete set will be $79.98 (DVD) and $89.98 (BD).

UPDATE: TV Shows On DVD is now reporting the following extras are confirmed to be on the Series 6 box set:

– Meanwhile in the TARDIS – Seven newly filmed scenes, exclusive to DVD and Blu-ray, telling what happens between the episodes
– Doctor Who Confidential – An inside look at each episode
– Monster Files – Get under the skin and inside the minds of the new Doctor’s most challenging opponents
– Audio Commentary
– Trailers and Trails
– More!

Several other extras, such as in-vision commentaries and the web-exclusive prequels, are rumoured to be on the set, as well, but their presence is unconfirmed at this time. Read the full post!

Radio Free Skaro at Chicago TARDIS 2011

Chicago TARDIS, the Midwest’s premier Doctor Who convention, announced today that Alex Kingston, River Song herself, will be a guest at the upcoming 2011 edition of the convention which takes place from November 25-27 at the Westin Lombard Yorkton Center in Lombard, IL. Kingston joins previously announced guests Peter Davison, Ben Aaronovitch, Nick Briggs, Jason Haigh-Ellery, Benjamin Cook, Beth Chalmers, Arnold T. Blumberg, and Toby Hadoke.

Radio Free Skaro has in past provided extensive coverage of Gallifrey One, the world’s preeminent Doctor Who convention which takes place in Los Angeles every February, and we’re pleased to say that we will be doing the same for Chicago TARDIS this year. One of our number, Steven, will be in attendance at the convention, talking to the guests and attendees and gathering interviews and such for Radio Free Skaro podcasts. It will be a grand time, and we hope that as many of you who listen to our podcasts can make it down to Chicago on Thanksgiving weekend.

Check out the Chicago TARDIS website for more details about the convention!

Fear Her, one of the less appreciated stories in the Doctor Who oeuvre, isn’t a story that the Three Who Rule reasoned (or hoped) would ever be brought up again in Doctor Who, but all three of your intrepid hosts got a distinct Chloe Webber/scribble monster/suburban England vibe from Mark Gatiss’s Night Terrors. That isn’t to say that they didn’t enjoy it, though. Also up for discussion was Episode 9 of Torchwood: Miracle Day, The Gathering, as that series hurdles, or stumbles, to its conclusion next week. All this and the usual dash and sprinkle of news, including the talk of the upcoming UNIT Box Set and some bona fide monumental viewing figures for SPACE in Canada.
