• Radio Free Skaro #292 – Amok Time

At long last, Radio Free Skaro's time-filling series of Series 6 commentaries comes to an end with the Three Who Rule talking over "The Wedding of River Song". They manage to keep vaguely on topic, perhaps a tough task given their general ennui towards the Series 6 finale which contained ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #291 – That Which Survives

A simple commentary about "Closing Time," which gave the Three Who Rule ample time to discuss the great chemistry between Matt Smith and guest star James Corden, instead devolved into a simply rancid discussion on babies and their propensity to poop on this episode of Radio Free Skaro. Our ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #290 – Whom Gods Destroy

Ah, that's the January we remember. The Christmas Special aired weeks ago, it's a long time until new Doctor Who (even longer than usual) and there's really not too much going on in the Who world. But there's always Gallifrey! A bit of Gally news and banter helps, well, fill ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #289 – Errand Of Mercy

Gallifrey One, the massive and amazing annual fan-run Doctor Who convention, is rapidly approaching and we take some time to talk to Program Director Shaun Lyon about the recently-released convention schedule and to formally announce details of our live show - Radio Free Skaro And The World Of Tomorrow! As ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #288 – Friday’s Child

Despite January usually being a lean time for news of things Who, this week was chock full of factoids and quasi-related marginalia for the Three Who Rule to ponder and prognosticate upon. Of course all seriousness went out the window with a commentary on "Night Terrors," which such weighty matters ...

marinus_r1January 2010 sees two more classic Doctor Who stories being released on DVD in Region 1. While there have some been some real winners of late (The War Games and The Deadly Assassin sure come to mind), this first offering of the new year brings us a couple also-rans, including the story recently voted worst ever by Doctor Who fans in Doctor Who Magazine 413.

The Keys of Marinus is William Hartnell’s fifth serial and was not long ago looked at by our very own Steven in the Chronic Hysteresis and introduced Doctor Who fans to that loveable ruffian, Edmund Warwick. The Twin Dilemma is the debut story for the Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, and is now officially the worst Doctor Who story ever produced and introduced us to the concept of green shoes with orange spats.

Both titles are available from the usual sources on January 5, 2010.

The Doctor Who Information Network (www.dwin.org) is reporting that SPACE, Canada’s sci-fi network, will be airing Planet of the Dead on Saturday, June 20, at 9:30 PM EST. As well, Series 5, which will debut in the UK in April 2010, will also be shown on SPACE sometime in the new year. (Even though the next three gap year specials were not mentioned, it is probably safe to assume that these will air on SPACE, as well).

Your intrepid hosts at Radio Free Skaro briefly talked about the possibility of this happening in Episode #133. However, it’s not like it’s a massive surprise, given that SPACE has already aired “The Next Doctor”, and also given that the CBC, which aired the first four series in increasingly erratic and sporadic fashion, is facing a large amount of financial cutbacks these days.

Anyway, here’s the link to the story on the DWIN site.

For those in Canada who have yet to see the Doctor Who 2008 Christmas Special “The Next Doctor”, SPACE will be airing the special (and not the CBC) on Saturday, March 14 (possibly at 9:00 PM ET). This news comes to us from Benjamin Elliott, proprietor of the superb This Week In Doctor Who Yahoo group (and also seen on Outpost Gallifrey), who has helped us out several times in the past.

Of course, if you listen to our shows, we’ve long since talked about/hashed/re-hashed/spoiled the hell out of TND already…
