As The Year With No Doctor Who drags on, new cracks in spacetime emerge, amongst them a back-and-forth war between the BBC and its enemies in government and without, and the surprising news that Chris Chibnall might adopt the (predominantly) American model of a writer’s room for his tenure as showrunner for Doctor Who. Intriguing! And while thinking about the future, why not reflect on the past? Specifically, ponder upon the legacy of the twentieth anniversary of the TV Movie, with a panel recorded at LI Who featuring Paul McGann, Daphne Ashbrook, Matthew Jacobs, and Gary Russell! And as if that isn’t enough, we have an interview with Yee Jee Tso about “Time and Spaces,” his photo book contrasting the Vancouver shooting locations of the movie in 1996 and today!
– Will Chris Chibnall use a writers room for Doctor Who?
Doctor Who TV Movie:
THIS…IS…ENGLAND! At least it is for Steven, Warren, and Erika, who with the help of the lovely Simon Harries are currently wandering around Albion, fighting dinosaurs, ATMOS, Autons and jet lag as they drool like wide-eyed schoolchildren at famous sights and the drearily commonplace. But first, Chris joins Warren and Steven live from the colonies to review “The Zygon Invasion,” the first of a two-part sucker-punch starring everyone’s favorite phallic shapeshifters. All this and dollies, Tate and Tennant in audio form and more! Next week, more adventures in England, Wales and parts in between!
– The Zygon…Invasion!
Doctor Who dives beneath the waves for “Under the Lake,” a base under siege story with ghosts, flash cards and British Sign Language….but what did Steven, Warren and Chris think of the first part of this soggy saga? More to the point, what is their hot take on “Class,” the just announced Doctor Who spin-off to be produced next year by BBC Wales(possibly at the expense of Doctor Who)? And as if that wasn’t enough, we also have Steven interviewing Clara Oswald herself, Jenna Coleman, recorded live onstage at Edmonton Expo!
– Under…The Lake!
The impending arrival of Christmas Day means two things: excitement for “The Snowmen” is rising to fever pitch, and…Chris is super busy and couldn’t be part of this week’s proceedings. Steven and Warren made up for his absence by immediately taking the whole business off the rails and discussing the Hobbit’s use of 48fps. After much debate and incorrect references to VidFIRE, the duo got back to business and discussed the week’s news before seguing into Steven’s interviews with both composer and production sound expert Mark Ayres and the voices behind Verity!, a new all-female podcast coming soon to your local internet.
Stay tuned on December 26th (known as Boxing Day here in the frozen wilds of Canada and as Wednesday in the US of A) for our review of “The Snowmen”!

Today saw a major guest announcement for the Gallifrey One convention in February 2013!
Freema Agyeman, who played Martha Jones during Series 3 of Doctor Who in 2007, will be making her first appearance at Gallifrey One. Agyeman also reprised her role in several episodes in Series 4, as well as a three-episode arc in the second series of Torchwood. She later appeared in the acclaimed series Law & Order UK. Agyeman, along with previously announced guest Arthur Darvill, gives Gallifrey One an impressive one-two punch of new series companions!
Check out the full list of guests on the Gallifrey One website. Stay tuned to Gallifrey One and Radio Free Skaro for future guest announcements!
Memberships have sold out for Gallifrey One; The Three Who Rule will be there to cover the convention, as well as recording a live podcast on the main stage, and we hope to see you all there!
Christmas has come and gone for another year, and Santa Claus has delivered another Doctor Who special for us all to devour like so much poorly digested turkey. Steven Moffat’s The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe certainly wasn’t the centrepiece of a holiday feast for the Three Who Rule, but more of a side dish of undercooked mashed potatoes that failed to elicit any strong reaction from any of the Three. Even multiple references to that most treasured of classic Who stories, The Caves of Androzani, couldn’t prevent this year’s special from being eclipsed by last year’s momentous A Christmas Carol, mentioned here only to provide this write-up a high note to end on. Here’s another depressing note, though: no more new Doctor Who for about nine months…

The fine folks at the Gallifrey One Convention have announced a guest update for Network 23, the 2012 iteration of North America’s largest Doctor Who convention!
Joining the previously announced guests such as Paul McGann and William Russell, a spate of cool folks have been announced. Joining the convention are Camille Coduri, aka Jackie Tyler, in her first North American convention appearance; sci-fi stalwart Mark Sheppard, recently seen as Canton Everett Delaware III; Maureen O’Brien who played Vicki in the 1960s, also in her first Gallifrey appearance; returning guest Daphne Ashbrook; Michael Troughton, son of Second Doctor Patrick Troughton; Torchwood and genre writers Jane Espenson and Doris Egan, both of whom can be heard in Radio Free Skaro #241; finally, returning guest and artist Matthew Dow Smith will be at Gallifrey, and he can be heard in Radio Free Skaro #186.
Gallifrey One is North America’s largest Doctor Who convention and Network 23, running February 17-19, 2012, will be dedicated to the memory of Elisabeth Sladen and Nicholas Courtney. And of course, always remember guest appearances are subject to professional commitments.
Expect many, many more guest announcements in the months to come!
