• Radio Free Skaro #445 – Can’t See The Forest For The Trees

"In the Forest Of The Night" already looks to be one of the most polarizing episodes of Series 8, and there's no shortage of opinion on this week's Radio Free Skaro to go around. Along with Steven and Warren, Nerdist wordsmith Kyle Anderson joined in (pinch-hitting for an unavailable Chris) ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #444 – Boneless Chicken Wings

Doctor Who is often at its best when it mixes domesticity with the fantastical, and the Jamie Mathieson penned, Douglas Mackinnon directed “Flatline” was no exception, if the rapturous reception (spoilers) of the Three Who Rule for this week’s episode is anything to go by. Thrill to their enthusiasm! Enjoy ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #443 – Execute Order 66

Trains! Space! A mummy! Jelly babies! Foxes! All things in writer Jamie Mathieson's “Mummy on the Orient Express,” this week’s episode of the obscure and not well regarded televisual program known as Doctor Who, and all subjects for debate for the Three Who Rule, who mulled all these elements plus ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #442 – Through The Thick And Thin

“Kill the Moon,” this week’s episode of Doctor Who, has proven to be one of the most divisive in recent memory, with fandom loving it or despising it but certainly not dismissing it. Was it the “game changer” showrunner Steven Moffat made it out to be? Has Peter Capaldi’s Doctor ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #441 – Officer’s Mess

When we found out that Gareth Roberts was the scribe behind “The Caretaker,” we all expected a rompity-romp-romp, much like “The Lodger” and “Closing Time.” And while this story did have rompy moments, it was also funny, touching and filled with nice character touches that you’ll only find out about ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #440 – All Hail The Great Architect

The beauty of Doctor Who is that it can be any story, anywhere and anywhen…and yet inexplicably there’s never really been a heist episode. Well, no longer! “Time Heist,” by writer Steve Thompson of “Curse of the Black Spot” and “Journey to the Center of the TARDIS" (ahem) fame. Did ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #439 – For What It’s Worth

As showrunner for Doctor Who, Steven Moffat is mostly known for beginnings and endings of series, but this week the Moff brought us “Listen,” a standalone story that delves into beginnings, endings and fear itself. So, did Moffat overload the story with his personal tropes, take the show in an ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #438 – Rocket Robin Hood

Robin Hood! Robots! Shenanigans! Etc! Things took a turn for the romp-y in “Robot of Sherwood,” the latest episode of Doctor Who, but what did the usually taciturn and P-Cap-ian Three Who Rule think? Eh? Listen as the three acerbic grouchwads expound upon the story in question and also reflect ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #437 – Death to the Daleks

The first proper P-Cap story, where he’s out of bed and sassing off to soldiers, Daleks and everyone in between, has arrived on our TV screens, tablets, laptops and eyeballs. You’d think after years of Dalek stories the well would be dry, but in fact….well, you’ll just have to listen ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #436 – Planet of the Pudding Brains

After months of waiting, feverish panic, speculation, madness, leaked scripts, world tours and other such lunacy, the first episode of Doctor Who, Series 8, titled “Deep Breath”, is upon us. You know what that means? Stats! So, so many stats. And, to a lesser extent, the opinions of Steven, Warren ...

Starz has released an 11-minute sneak peek of Torchwood: Miracle Day including a bunch of footage from the series. Have a look!

Website Den of Geek is reporting that Torchwood: Miracle Day will begin its UK run on Thursday, July 14. The New World will go out at 9:00PM that day on BBC One, kicking off the new series in the UK, albeit 6 days behind the US broadcast on Starz and 5 days behind the Canadian broadcast on SPACE.

The BBC Press Office has yet to make any public statement regarding the UK launch of the series, though they have sent a release to news outlets explicitly stating the time & date of transmission.

Needless to say there has often been the ethical question relating to “other means” acquisitions of Doctor Who by those outside the UK before day and date transmissions became a reality; it will be interesting to see if any reports are published about such actions by UK residents looking to avoid the 6-day delay for Torchwood: Miracle Day. Given Doctor Who Magazine has also reported there will be at least minor differences between the US and UK versions, there may be another reason for folks in the UK to seek out those “other means” when it comes to Torchwood: Miracle Day, just as there may be for those outside the UK curious to see the UK versions of the episodes.

Many thanks to Simon Brew over at Den of Geek for the information required for this article.

SPACE, Canada’s home of Doctor Who and Torchwood, has just announced Torchwood: Miracle Day will be broadcast from July 9.

Torchwood: Miracle Day tells the story of what happens when one day nobody on Earth dies and the repercussions faced by humanity; it features the return of Capt Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper, played by John Barrowman and Eve Myles. Joining them are Mekhi Phifer as Rex Matheson, Bill Pullman as Oswald Danes, Lauren Ambrose as Jilly Kitzinger and Alexa Havins as Esther Drummond.

Torchwood: Miracle Day will occupy the 9PM ET time slot, an hour later than Doctor Who had this spring.

The series will premiere in the US on Starz on July 8 at 10PM ET/PT, however the BBC has yet to announce its broadcast schedule for the show.

Radio Free Skaro #258 – Click here to listen

With the end of Series 6.1 comes a time for reflection… and what better way to genuflect than with two of the members of Tachyon TV, Neil Perryman and John Williams? Fresh off “A Good Man Goes to War,” the houses of Tachyon and Skaro offered their (somewhat surprisingly) sunny and pleasant feelings towards the last batch of Who stories we’ll see until the fall, as well as digressing about Neil’s ongoing Adventures With the Wife in Space blog (read by none other than Doctor Who production team head Steven Moffat, amongst others) and other matters of import. A small note; the Tachyon TV segment was recorded before fan controversy erupted for the umpteenth time over next year’s schedule of shows, so that issue was (thankfully) never raised amongst the good feelings and bonhomie.

Yesterday, Starz released a series of character profiles for Torchwood: Miracle Day and scattered them across the web. Each looked at one of 6 major characters – Capt Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper, Rex Matheson, Oswald Danes, Esther Drummond and Jilly Kitzinger – for about a minute apiece. Today Starz released an amalgamated version of those profiles, and here it is!
