Radio Free Skaro at Chicago TARDIS 2011

Chicago TARDIS, the Midwest’s premier Doctor Who convention, announced today that Alex Kingston, River Song herself, will be a guest at the upcoming 2011 edition of the convention which takes place from November 25-27 at the Westin Lombard Yorkton Center in Lombard, IL. Kingston joins previously announced guests Peter Davison, Ben Aaronovitch, Nick Briggs, Jason Haigh-Ellery, Benjamin Cook, Beth Chalmers, Arnold T. Blumberg, and Toby Hadoke.

Radio Free Skaro has in past provided extensive coverage of Gallifrey One, the world’s preeminent Doctor Who convention which takes place in Los Angeles every February, and we’re pleased to say that we will be doing the same for Chicago TARDIS this year. One of our number, Steven, will be in attendance at the convention, talking to the guests and attendees and gathering interviews and such for Radio Free Skaro podcasts. It will be a grand time, and we hope that as many of you who listen to our podcasts can make it down to Chicago on Thanksgiving weekend.

June 2011 North America Doctor Who DVDs

June 14 sees the next two North American releases of Classic Doctor Who stories, and this time around we get the Peter Davison story Frontios along with Sylvester McCoy’s first outing in Time and the Rani.

Frontios tells the story of a human colony in the far future, and as yet no release date is known for other parts of the world.

Time and the Rani introduces the world to Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor as he takes on the dastardly Rani in a DVD released last year in the UK.

April 2011 North America Doctor Who DVDs

While not available in a box set as in the UK, April 12, 2011 will see the North American DVD release of the two Mara stories, Kinda and Snakedance. Available approximately 5 weeks after the UK release, each will carry an SRP of $24.98. Click the cover art for larger versions.

September 2010 Doctor Who DVD Releases for North America

September 7th sees the North American release of, well, a couple not-so-great Doctor Who titles. Thankfully Planet of Fire is amongst the bunch to give the month a little bit of cred. Coupled with The King’s Demons in the UK, the North American release sees separation again as with the Peladon stories released recently. The first story produced for Season 17, The Creature From The Pit is the last of the month’s releases.

It had to happen sooner or later, so the Three Who Rule ripped the bandage off by recording a commentary for The End of Time Part One, that neo-classic from Christmas 2009 containing such classic Who elements as magic potions, laser hands, randy senior citizens and Smell-O-Vision. Did the episode fare better this time round after the scolding it received in Radio Free Skaro 174? You decide. Also discussed was news of Gaiman, gay men, and gained men, er, companions. Onwards!
