• Radio Free Skaro #291 – That Which Survives

A simple commentary about "Closing Time," which gave the Three Who Rule ample time to discuss the great chemistry between Matt Smith and guest star James Corden, instead devolved into a simply rancid discussion on babies and their propensity to poop on this episode of Radio Free Skaro. Our ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #290 – Whom Gods Destroy

Ah, that's the January we remember. The Christmas Special aired weeks ago, it's a long time until new Doctor Who (even longer than usual) and there's really not too much going on in the Who world. But there's always Gallifrey! A bit of Gally news and banter helps, well, fill ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #289 – Errand Of Mercy

Gallifrey One, the massive and amazing annual fan-run Doctor Who convention, is rapidly approaching and we take some time to talk to Program Director Shaun Lyon about the recently-released convention schedule and to formally announce details of our live show - Radio Free Skaro And The World Of Tomorrow! As ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #288 – Friday’s Child

Despite January usually being a lean time for news of things Who, this week was chock full of factoids and quasi-related marginalia for the Three Who Rule to ponder and prognosticate upon. Of course all seriousness went out the window with a commentary on "Night Terrors," which such weighty matters ...

  • Radio Free Skaro #287 – The Man Trap

As 2011 draws to a close and the Three Who Rule look forward to 2012 and the next series of Doctor Who - whenever the heck it ends up being transmitted - and also deliver their commentary for the Series 6.2 opener, Let's Kill Hitler. We'll see if it stands ...

September 7th sees the North American release of, well, a couple not-so-great Doctor Who titles. Thankfully Planet of Fire is amongst the bunch to give the month a little bit of cred. Coupled with The King’s Demons in the UK, the North American release sees separation again as with the Peladon stories released recently. The first story produced for Season 17, The Creature From The Pit is the last of the month’s releases.

Below are the covers for each DVD, click on the thumbnail for a larger version.

Check out the full story at TVShowsOnDVD.com.

Edit: Warner has issued corrected cover art for The King’s Demons, removing the spelling error in Peter Davison’s name. Planet of Fire has now also been confirmed as a 2-disc release however updated cover art is not yet available. See the update at TVShowsOnDVD.com.

Edit #2: Warner has now issued corrected cover art for Planet of Fire, similarly fixing the spelling error in Peter Davison’s name, and now reflecting the fact it’s a 2-disc release. See the update at TVShowsOnDVD.com.

A bumper crop of four different Doctor Who DVDs, comprising five stories, will be released in North America on July 6. The Space Museum/The Chase set represents the William Hartnell era. As noted in Radio Free Skaro #184, the scene containing The Beatles’ performance of “Ticket To Ride” will be excised from all DVD versions outside of Europe.

Also due out are the three stories included in the UK “Myths and Legends” box set, but sold separately in North America: The Time Monster, Underworld, and The Horns of Nimon.

Below are the covers for each DVD:

May 4 will see the North American release of both Peladon stories from the Jon Pertwee era, The Curse of Peladon and The Monster of Peladon, as well as the 1976 Tom Baker story The Masque of Mandragora. What’s interesting to note is that the Peladon stories will only be sold separately, as opposed to the box set that came out this month in the UK.

Artwork for the Region 1 releases of the gap year specials has been released.

On February 2, we will see a standalone release of The Waters of Mars, a standalone release of The End of Time and a box set containing all the gap year specials, including the previously-released The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead. All releases will be available on both DVD and Blu-Ray (except The Next Doctor which was not shot in HD and will be unavailable on Blu-Ray).

The US packaging carries an “As Seen on BBC America” notation; we can but assume the Canadian packaging will carry an “As Seen on SPACE” notation.

Edit: Per Steve Manfred, The Next Doctor will be upconverted to 1080i and be on Blu-Ray as part of The Specials Box Set.
