Gallifrey One 2015 – First Guest Update

g26frontpage
The first guest update for the 2015 edition of Gallifrey One has been announced, and it’s jam packed with some new faces to Gallifrey One, as well as some old favourites!

evemylesEve Myles was the heart and soul of Torchwood through all four seasons of the Doctor Who spinoff. She also appeared as Gwyneth in the 2005 Doctor Who episode “The Unquiet Dead”, and is an absolute hoot at conventions! This will be her first appearance at Gallifrey One.
derricksherwinDerrick Sherwin was producer and/or script editor for Doctor Who throughout the latter half of Patrick Troughton’s reign in the TARDIS. He also wrote the 1968 story “The Invasion”, and he also created UNIT, which was a staple for the entire Jon Pertwee era. This will be Derrick’s first appearance at Gallifrey One.
janetfieldingJanet Fielding is returning to Gallifrey One! Always a Gally favourite, Janet played Tegan Jovanka alongside Peter Davison for almost the entire run of the Fifth Doctor. Janet also had a hilarious cameo in “The Five-ish Doctors” in November 2013.
sophiealdredSophie Aldred portrayed Ace onscreen during the Seventh Doctor era of Doctor Who, and has gone on to portray her in several Big Finish audios since then. One of the most beloved convention guests ever, Sophie makes her long awaited return to Gallifrey One next year.
wendypadburyWendy Padbury played Zoe Heriot from 1968’s “The Wheel in Space” until the last story of the 1960’s., the ten-part epic “The War Games”. Wendy has appeared at several previous editions of Gallifrey One, and it’s great to have her back in LA once again in 2015.
kaiowenKai Owen played Gwen Cooper’s loyal but slightly overwhelmed husband Rhys in all four seasons of Torchwood, eventually becoming an almost full fledged member of the Torchwood team by the end. Kai previously appeared at Gallifrey One in 2009.
andypryorWhen Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner first set up shop to produce Doctor Who in 2004, casting director Andy Pryor was the person they hired, and Andy has been in that position to this day. During that time, he has had a strong hand in casting four different Doctors, several companions, and several hundred other actors that have graced the screen since the Doctor Who premiered in 2005. This is Andy’s first Gallifrey One appearance.
dannyhargreavesDanny Hargreaves is another veteran of the Doctor Who production team, and has been in charge of the visual effects on Doctor Who for several series now. This is Danny’s first Gallifrey One appearance, and he may even be bringing some of his tricks of the trade along with him…
terrymolloyTerry Molloy wasn’t the first to play the role of Davros, the Daleks’ creator, but he has certainly made it his own, playing Davros onscreen three times, and several times since then in various Big Finish audio plays.
frazerhinesCan Gallifrey One even exist without Frazer Hines being there? Frazer Hines played Jamie McCrimmon, longtime loyal companion of the Second Doctor, and he is a loyal companion to Gallifrey One, as well.
christopherneameChristopher Neame, now based in Los Angeles, played Skagra, the main villain of the strike-cancelled “Shada”, which was supposed to close out Season 17 in 1980. This is Christopher’s first appearance at Gallifrey One, although he will only be able to appear on the Saturday of the convention.
sarahlouisemadisonYou might not know the face of Sarah Louise Madison without her costume on, but rest assured, she has scared the pants off of you. Sarah has played one (or more) of the Weeping Angels in every televised appearance of the menacing statues, including “The Time of Angels” and “The Angels Take Manhattan”. This will be Sarah’s first appearance at Gallifrey One.
Also announced were old favourites Gary Russell, Paul Cornell, Steve Roberts, Jason Haigh-Ellery, Scott Handcock, David J Howe, Sam Stone, and Tony Lee. Check out the full list of guests on the Gallifrey One website. Stay tuned to Gallifrey One and Radio Free Skaro for future guest announcements!

Gallifrey One 2014 Guest Update

Today saw the first of many guest announcements for the Gallifrey One convention in February 2014! With Gallifrey One celebrating its 25th anniversary next year, this block of guests features many familiar faces from the early years of the convention, as well as some recent favourites without whom Gally just wouldn’t be Gally!

Writer Paul Cornell makes his long awaited return to Gallifrey One after taking a couple years off. Cornell contributed several novels to the New Adventures range in the 1990s and created the popular end enduring character Bernice Summerfield. He also wrote “Father’s Day” for Series One of the new series and adapted his own acclaimed “Human Nature” novel into two-part story in Series Three.
Hugo Award winning scribe Phil Ford was absent from Gallifrey One last year, due to his continued work on the CBBC series Wizards vs Aliens. Not only has Phil been a fixture at Gallifrey One since 2009, he also has an impressive list of writing credits, including Doctor Who (The Waters of Mars), Torchwood, and head writer of the Sarah Jane Adventures. He is also, of course, “Friend of the Show” to us here at Radio Free Skaro.
When Doctor Who returned from its BBC imposed hiatus in 1986, a new version of the theme tune provided by Dominic Glynn was the first thing viewers heard. In addition to providing the theme tune for “The Trial of a Time Lord”, Glynn did incidental music for six of the fourteen episodes, and went on to score three stories in the Sylvester McCoy era. Dominic will be making his first appearance at Gallifrey One.
Several other return appearances were announced, as well, such as Gary Russell, Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon), Steve Roberts (Doctor Who Restoration Team), writers Justin Richards, Stephen Cole, Keith Topping, Peter Anghiledes, Graeme Burk, Robert Smith?, and comic artists Charlie Kirchoff and Matthew Dow Smith.
Check out the full list of guests on the Gallifrey One website. Stay tuned to Gallifrey One and Radio Free Skaro for future guest announcements!

Gallifrey One 2013 Guest Update

The fine folks behind the upcoming Gallifrey One convention have announced another batch of guests, with some familiar names and some new faces, and certainly some folks we at Radio Free Skaro look forward to seeing and hearing speak.

Dan Hall is the executive producer of the Doctor Who DVD range, responsible for so many facets of the wonderful shiny discs made available every month. This is Dan’s first Gallifrey One appearance.
Ed Stradling has produced more special features for the DVD range than can adequately be covered in this blog post, not the least of which is the recent – and amazing – Second Time Around, a look at Patrick Troughton. This will be his first trip to Gallifrey One.
Steve Roberts, making a return appearance, rounds out the triumvirate of DVD-related guests now confirmed for the 2013 iteration of Gallifrey One. Steve was last at Gally in 2012, talking about the recently-found episodes of Galaxy 4 and The Underwater Menace.
Friend of the show Phil Ford will, like the Three Who Rule, be making his fifth consecutive Gallifrey One appearance. Phil was the lead writer for the later years of The Sarah Jane Adventures and of course worked on Doctor Who proper as well as the recent video games. Doubtless Phil will be discussing Wizards vs Aliens, his latest project with former Doctor Who show runner Russell T Davies.
Keith Temple wrote Planet of the Ood for the fourth series of Doctor Who, and will be returning to Gallifrey One after a lengthy absence.
Other Doctor Who guests announced for The 24 Hours of Gallifrey One are comics writers Len Wein and Josh Fialkov, illustrators Blair Shedd and Paul Hanley, writers Robert Smith? and Graeme Burk, and Inspector Spacetime himself Travis Richey. Genre guests recently announced are David Gerrold, Barbara Hambly, Marv Wolfman, Nancy Holder, Gillian Horvath, David Wise, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Darin Henry, Paul Salamoff and Debbie Viguie.
And while this list of names is impressive in its own right, the guest announcements for Gallifrey One are nowhere near done – keep an eye on the Gallifrey One website and your ears on Radio Free Skaro for future guest announcements!
Memberships for Gallifrey One are available from the convention website, and cost $75 (until September 30) for the entire weekend of programming. We’ll be there as usual, again opening the convention with a live show, and we hope to see you there too!

Day Two of Gally! And what a day of behind the scenes luminaries it was, with Doctor Who director Richard Senior (“Let’s Kill Hitler”), writer Simon Guerrier and the inestimable Steve Roberts of the Doctor Who Restoration Team rounding out the behind the scenes chatter. Plus the delightful mendicants from the Pharos Project stopped by to drink, swear and occasionally form a sentence. Drunktastic!

In the second of our daily Gallifrey podcasts, the Three Who Rule delved into the shiny, circular world of Who on DVD with special guests Steve Roberts of the Restoration Team and Steve Manfred of the Doctor Who DVD FAQ. All that and news, special appearances by fellow podcasters, and the usual whimsy you’ve come to expect from us. Enjoy!
