  • Radio Free Skaro #416 – Random Access Memories

The classic commentary returns to Radio Free Skaro, in the form of a brief but enticing little number known as "The Sontaran Experiment"! • Radio Free Skaro #410 – Love From Gallifrey, Boys

For the first time in a long time, we’ve got some upcoming North American Doctor Who DVD releases not featuring a title that’s been recently released in the UK.

June 12 will see the release of the special editions (née Revisitations) of the Patrick Troughton/Ice Warriors story The Seeds of Death along with Peter Davison’s lone battle against the Daleks, Resurrection of the Daleks.

Full special features have yet to be announced by Warner, though it’s safe to assume the North American releases will offer the same bonuses as folks got in the UK. With these releases, North America is finally caught up to the UK as far as Revisitations titles are concerned, with one exception – there’s still neither hide nor hair of the special edition of Spearhead From Space on this side of the Atlantic. Is it an issue with the Fleetwood Mac song? Who knows…

Also, as previously announced on Radio Free Skaro, June 12 will see the North American release of Series Five of The Sarah Jane Adventures, an offering which will indeed include the lone bonus item Goodbye Bannerman Road, Chris Chapman’s wonderful look at the series and the passing of its lead actress and star, Lis Sladen.

The Doctor Who releases will each be 2-disc sets and carry an MSRP of $34.98. Series Five of The Sarah Jane Adventures is a single disc release with an MSRP of $19.98. More details about these Doctor Who and Sarah Jane Adventures releases can be found at TVShowsOnDVD.com.

Update: Full cover art for Seeds of Death and Resurrection of the Daleks is now available. Click on the artwork for any of these titles for a larger version.

Radio Free Skaro #300 – Click here to listen!

After five and a half years of middling Doctor Who talk and wildly inaccurate discussion about the programme and those who create it, The Three Who Rule reach the amazing milestone of their 300th episode of Radio Free Skaro. It’s been an epic ride from virtual obscurity for our first two years of existence to where we are today, and what better way to celebrate this event than the return of the Miniscope! In this instalment, we discuss the work of minor director Nicholas Mallett, whose Doctor Who output ranged from the very worst (“Paradise Towers”) to the very best (“The Curse of Fenric”), and everything in between (“The Mysterious Planet”). Given Warren’s rampant distaste for the Sylvester McCoy era, surely this will be a painful experience for him…or will it? This is the type of intrigue that has kept this show going for 300 episodes, and will push it into the future for at least a couple more.

With just a week to go until the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special, the Three Who Rule cast their eyes back to a simpler time, before River Song was related to the Ponds and when a baby could turn into a puddle of goo and still be broadcast pre-watershed. Yes, “A Good Man Goes to War” was our commentary this week, with all the usual off-topic and off-color discussion you’ve come to know and somewhat tolerate. Add chatter of our live show at Gallifrey 2012 (two months from now!), news of departing companions, Season 7′s structure, and Fendahl action figures, and you’ve got yourself a podcast!

The lead time for the announcement of the Sarah Jane Adventures Series 4 release in North America is short, but Warner has finally let it be known that December 6 will see the series come out on DVD.

Blu-Ray release news hasn’t yet been announced, so as far as we know it’s up in the air if we’ll get a high definition release of the series, which includes the return of Jo Jones (née Grant) and the appearance of Matt Smith, but hope springs eternal of course.

No extras were announced in the press release, but you can take a look at the press release at TV Shows On DVD. MSRP for the release is $29.98 in the US and, oddly, $37.48 in Canada.

Radio Free Skaro #279 – Click here to listen!

Well, it had to come to this eventually – a slow news week and a duff episode of Doctor Who to be commented on both occurring on the same episode of Radio Free Skaro. With little in the way of actual news to discuss, the Three Who Rule instead bandied about their mostly positive experiences while playing the new Doctor Who Adventure game, The Gunpowder Plot. And with equally little in the way of actual good Doctor Who, the Three meandered into discussions about Justin Bieber and the films of director Peter Weir. You have been warned.

Radio Free Skaro #277 – Click here to listen!

The time has finally arrived for The Three Who Rule to cast their eyes back on Series 6 of Doctor Who via their annual commentary series. Things kick off with, of course, The Impossible Astronaut, as the lads talk over what they felt to be one of the best opening episodes for any series of NuWho… and as ever, rarely staying on topic. But for every beginning there’s an ending as the last ever episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures graced the small screen this past week, and things just won’t be the same without Lis Sladen. The news of the week rounds out the show with a look at DVDs, books, and the latest from the rumour mill.

The penultimate episode of Series 6 featured the return of one of the great Doctor-companion teams that never happened. Matt Smith and James Corden, so perfectly matched in 2010′s “The Lodger”, reunited to amuse and delight in Gareth Roberts’s wonderful follow-up “Closing Time”, a story about which the Three Who Rule were unanimous in their opinion. The Cybermen also returned and were promptly dispensed with, but who cares about them, really? Also discussed in this podcast: the inevitable rapid-fire stats, new toys, favourite Doctors, rampant pluggery and more. Radio Free Skaro, here to help!
