Radio Free Skaro #192 – Click here to listen

The Three Who Rule were joined by Neil from Hartlepool (and Tachyon TV, tangentially) to celebrate the return of Doctor Who to our screens and to fete the debut of Karen Gillan, Matt Smith, and showrunner Steven Moffat in their respective roles of awesome, awesomer and awesomest. There was much discussion of “The Eleventh Hour,” which other than an atrocious new theme tune (and lack of a McCoy era sex wink) was deemed near perfect. All that and news, tomfoolery and a very strange extra feature on the upcoming Planet of Fire DVD round out this episode of RFS. Geronimo.

  1. Thanks guys for another great show. I found myself in furious agreement with your collective opinions of the first episode. Loved it (and Ep 1 of DW!).

Does anyone else think that the Moff’s comment in Confidential about the Doctors being the same person (despite regeneration) is a repudiation of the idea peddled in End of Slime that regeneration is a death? Minor point but the frenzy whipped up around the ‘death’ of Ten annoyed me. Or maybe I’ve had it completely wrong for the last 25 years.

  2. Good show and great to hear from Neil. Other than the title music, which surprisingly – is growing on me, I thought it was a fantastic re-launch. There were some strange elements of Smith and Jones and Christmas Invasion that came through, but overall, I found the new Doctor to be engaging, serious, and fun – all wrapped up together. I am REALLY looking forward to the next several weeks.

  3. I like the new opening DW theme. the really new bit, right at the start, not so much, but that is drowned out quick enough, then its all gold, or atleast a very polished silver.

  4. You guys make me laugh.
Re: Turlough, I didn’t know he wasn’t from Earth until very (very) late in his story arch. I’d like to think this was not my fault, in which case an extra scene might be justified in the eyes of the first-time viewer.
